Captain Sutter's Fort,

This is the story of two young people who are rescued from Indians by Captain Sutter.  They accompany him on his journeys to Oregon, Hawaii, Alaska and finally to California where they helped him build his fort, and later learn of the discovery of gold at Sutter's mill.  The story is true to the facts of Sutter's life, but is told in a way sure to please children.  A great way to learn California history.
